In the Niche Luxury world, what does individuality really mean?

Recently, Friday magazine has published an article about the niche market and what makes a brand dubbed as niche. You can read it here.
In this post, I would like to focus more on the ‘individuality’ element. What does ‘individuality’ really mean? And more importantly, how to achieve it?
In the urban dictionary ‘Individuality’ means ‘the particular character that distinguishes a person from others’. In the niche luxury world,  individuality is about looking and feeling different from everyone else. It’s not about following the herd, but it’s about standing out by finding your true self deep within and having what is truly for you rather than what others dictate on you to have. Individuality does not scream big brand names that are plastered on street banners and magazine covers; it is about the brands that are passionately created and answer the needs of people wanting to distinguish themselves from the rest. In perfumery, niche luxury brands are niche because:
1.      They are not mass produced
2.      They use the finest raw material, even if it means more time and effort are consumed and invested.
There are of course other reasons as illustrated in the Friday article. However, more importantly, niche luxury perfume brands such as BOIS 1920, Humiecki & Graef, Frapin, Linari, etc… have sentimental stories behind them. People who appreciate their individuality are usually keen to learn these stories and weave a special relationship with the fragrance because they can relate to these stories. Stories about giving back to the community, paying homage for a family member, or following a dream and watching it come true.
We will be telling you these stories on this blog. But for now, and for people who have been waiting for this news and the ones who cherish their individuality, we are happy to announce the Limited Edition of BOIS 1920 has reached the UAE market. Only 1920 bottles were released world-wide and the UAE is getting its share.. talking about individuality!

Taking a holiday sometime soon?

A must read Miriam Quevedo top 10 tips for hair care during holidays:

Being on holiday means indulging in a free style life with lots of outdoor activities especially if you’re in a region like the Gulf where the weather is at best towards the end of the year. This by no means an excuse to let go of your hair care regime; actually you should be more strict about it to protect your hair from external factors and avoid ending your holiday with a big problem on your head. Miriam Quevedo, a leading manufacturer of hair care products, gives out the top ten tips on how to protect your hair:

1.       In this part of the region, i.e. the Gulf, the sun is quite strong even in December. Apply products specially designed to protect the hair from sun damage. Steer clear of products that contain alcohol as this kind of products can increase hair dryness and breakage.
2.       Be sure to protect your scalp whilst in the sun – This can lead to dryness, flakiness and peeling of the scalp, not to mention sun damage to the skin which will eventually lead to hair loss and poor scalp health
3.       During the winter months is when you will actually lose deep retained moisture (hydration) from your skin and hair due to the lack of moisture in the air. Use slightly heavier and more protective creams during winter to lock that moisture in.
4.       In case of curly hair, use shampoos and moisturizers to prevent moisture loss and breakage of hair since curly hair is known for being usually dry. This will also seal and smooth the surface of the hair cuticle giving a gorgeous textured curl and not the wiry finish we usually see.
5.      In case of dyed hair, select color-repair shampoo and a hair conditioner developed especially for colored hair. When you hair is strong and healthy it will retain the colour for longer – weak and dry hair will lose the colour much more quickly. A serum will also protect against unnecessary moisture loss.
6.       Pamper your hair, just like you would for the rest of your body. To your surprise, even oily hair needs moisture but in a balanced way. Use masks rich with protein, trace elements and vitamins to have a repair action and restructure the broken links of the keratin in your hair cuticle.
7.       Try to limit the use of hair dryers. Do not use a hair dryer each time you wash your hair as hairdryers, flat irons, curling tongs help in making the hair more porous which makes the hair difficult to maintain its colour. A tip when drying hair, do it upside down so that the heat only reaches the underneath of the hair and not the outside hair shaft. After washing/conditioning your hair apply a serum before drying. The serum will help to protect against heat, moisture loss and give your hair a silky finish.
8         Invest in a good haircut. Healthy and nicely-trimmed hair go a long way to keep one looking good and it will prevent split ends from drying out more of your hair than they should – make the cut!
9        Ensure to include Omega’s and essential fatty acids into your diet such as fish, salmon, tuna and nuts for silky hair. Include a rich omega multi-vitamin into your daily intake to increase omega absorption if you are not getting a sufficient amount from your diet.
10     Minimize stress from your life where you can as this will decrease your overall body health which also takes an effect on your skin and hair.
